Music Lessons - Woodwind, Piano and Theory

Richard Fox
I was lucky enough to take music lessons with Helen for around a decade, starting in year four and running up until I moved away to study for my undergraduate degree in music. Helen is a rare example of a teacher who is able to carry a pupil forward through all the stages of their development. The education I received was rich, challenging, and absolutely foundational to my achievements as a musician, both as a student and into my professional work beyond.
Following my undergraduate degree, I was able to continue my academic studies, graduating with master’s degrees in both music and philosophy, and I am currently planning to study for a PhD.
Alongside this I have been able to work professionally in many different contexts, such as musical theatre, opera, functions, and orchestral concerts. My work in all these areas owes a great deal to the constant support and encouragement that I received whist working with Helen, who helped me to gain experience in professional settings from a very early age.
Ultimately, I cannot recommend Helen’s teaching highly enough.

I started having flute lessons with Helen when I was in year 4 for over 10 years all the way through until I joined the Army as a musician. Through Helen’s guidance and tuition, I went on to join the North East Derbyshire Music centre where I eventually became principal flautist of the Senior Wind Band and a member of Derby City and County Wind Band.
As a result of Helen’s mentoring and tuition I have gone onto have a successful career as a military musician where I’ve been lucky to perform all over the world.
I really can’t recommend Helen enough as a teacher, she gives her students excellent guidance, tuition and continued support.
